Dome A is the abbreviated name of Dome Argus and is located at the highest point on the Antarctic plateau (80°22'S 77°21'E). Its elevation of 4093 meters above sea level and its lattitude make it one of, if not the coldest place on earth. During mid-winter the temperature can drop below -90°C and due to the extremely cold temperature, the air contains nearly no water vapour.
